Abbey Horwitz assists individuals and families with estate and tax planning, including arrangements for family members with disabilities, trust and estate administration, and guardianship matters. Abbey is experienced in preparing both simple and complex estate plans for her clients to ensure their assets are distributed according to their wishes, counseling individuals and families regarding estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax considerations, and advising clients on business succession issues.
As a parent of a child with special needs, Abbey is uniquely qualified to relate to, and advise clients on, planning for the special needs child. She prepares special needs trusts and other estate planning documents to assist clients with establishing the foundation for their children’s futures. Abbey also represents families in guardianship proceedings for their special needs children.
Abbey’s practice also includes working with fiduciaries in connection with estate and trust administration from commencement to completion, including the preparation of estate and trust accountings, estate and inheritance tax returns, and releases and waivers for distributions from estates and trusts, as well as handling estate and inheritance tax audits.
In addition, she advises clients on succession issues for their family businesses often assisting with the formation of corporations and limited liability companies, as well as the preparation of corporate governance documents. Abbey also assists clients with gifting and sales of business interests, including the preparation of shareholder agreements and corporate transfer documents.
