Basil Krikelis’ practice is directed to representation of clients in all phases of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on patent procurement, strategic development and management of worldwide patent portfolios, Freedom-to-Operate and IP landscape analysis, IP Due Diligence reviews, licensing and other technical transactions, and complex intellectual property dispute/litigation support. While Basil represents clients in a variety of technological spaces, his practice is primarily focused in the life sciences and/or chemical space, including representation of fortune 500 biopharmaceutical companies, start-up and emerging growth life sciences companies, as well as universities and university spin-outs in all technologies. In Basil’s 25 years of practice he has worked in the field of immunotherapies, gene therapy and CRISPR, recombinant proteins, small molecules, drug delivery, personalized medicine, diagnostics, polymer chemistry, formulations, medical devices, hydrogels, agricultural and animal biosciences, personal care, cosmetics, food, flavorings, and industrial chemicals. Basil is routinely sought out by client’s for his intellectual property expertise in these areas.
Basil continues to draw on his years serving as chief patent counsel for a substantial Ag-Biotech research and development company to better advise his clients on patent filing strategies such as scope of filing, life cycle management, building patent “picket fences,” and international patent filing, as well as developing innovative approaches to identifying business opportunities and generating income from intellectual property.
Before practicing law, Basil worked for three years in a research lab as a molecular biologist for the DuPont Company and the later formed joint venture of DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company.
