Samuel James concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation, with a focus on product liability, mass tort, and consumer class action defense. Sam has significant experience defending a wide range of clients in state and federal courts, including manufacturers and vendors of pharmaceutical products, medical devices, consumer electronics, industrial machinery, and construction equipment. Sam’s litigation experience includes defending clients in single-plaintiff actions as well as in multidistrict litigations (MDL). Sam is also experienced in defending high-value personal injury, premises liability, dram-shop, wrongful death, and construction defect matters.

In addition to his litigation practice, Sam regularly counsels medical device and consumer product manufacturers regarding product liability litigation avoidance and general risk mitigation by advising companies with respect to product warnings, instructions, and labeling, as well as claims in marketing and promotional materials. Sam also maintains an active pro bono practice, and has been an advocate for veterans, individuals facing housing displacement, and first responders.

Prior to entering private practice, Sam served as a law clerk for the Honorable James J DeLuca, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County. While in law school, he was an Editor on the Fordham Law Moot Court Board and Captain of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition Team. Outside of work, Sam has been active in New Jersey volunteer EMS for more than a decade, serving as an instructor and training officer to new EMTs and providing pro bono legal services to a volunteer ambulance service in his community.
