Samuel A. James is an associate in the Products Liability, Mass Tort and Consumer Class Actions group. Sam focuses his practice on the defense of manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and medical device clients in product liability, class action, and other complex litigation in state and federal courts.
Prior to joining McCarter, Sam worked as a litigation associate at a large New Jersey-based firm where his duties included preparing and answering pre-trial discovery, taking depositions, motion practice, attending mediations and arbitrations, and assisting with trial preparation. Sam has experience defending clients in single-plaintiff personal injury actions as well as construction defect matters, and drafting post-trial appeals. Prior to entering private practice, Sam served as a law clerk for the Honorable James J DeLuca, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County.
While in law school, he was the National Security Law Competition Editor on the Moot Court Board and Captain of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition Team. Sam also served as a Student Advocate in Fordham’s Federal Litigation Clinic and completed internships with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and in the general counsel’s office of a nationally recognized hospital system. Outside of work, Sam has been active in New Jersey volunteer EMS for more than a decade, serving as an instructor and training officer to new EMTs and providing pro bono legal services to a volunteer ambulance service in his community.
