Dr. Yelena Margolin is an experienced patent attorney practicing in the fields of chemistry and biotechnology. She handles all aspects of patent prosecution in the U.S. and around the world and manages global IP portfolios. Her expertise also includes conducting freedom to operate (FTO) and patentability analyses, as well as IP due diligence and invalidity opinion work. Yelena is experienced in diverse technology areas, including small molecule therapeutics, polymer-based compositions for implant manufacture and drug delivery, therapeutic antibodies, therapeutic probiotic compositions, protein replacement therapies, cell-based therapies, RNA interference, and mass spectrometry-based analytical methods.
Prior to joining McCarter & English, Yelena worked as a molecular biologist at Boston area biotechnology companies. She received her PhD in Toxicology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology studying chemical mechanisms of sequence-specific DNA oxidation. Yelena conducted postdoctoral research in the area of analytical chemistry and proteomics at the Harvard School of Public Health. She has several publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, including a first-author publication in Nature Chemical Biology, and has presented her work at numerous scientific meetings.
