McCarter & English announces the election of seven new partners: John Allen, Brian Carroll, Travis Ferguson, Yelena Margolin, Alison Morrissey, Mario Russo, and John Stoelker. Resident in four of the firm’s offices, the new partners represent five practice groups including Business Litigation, Intellectual Property, Product Liability, Insurance Coverage, and Bankruptcy.

John Allen—Business Litigation, Boston—John handles a variety of complex business disputes, including real estate matters, such as retail lease disputes, land and title defects, sale and acquisition actions, brokerage disputes, title insurance matters, condominium association actions, and environmental and regulatory disputes. He regularly appears in federal and state courts and before state regulatory and administrative agencies.
Brian Carroll—Business Litigation, Newark—Brian is an experienced commercial litigator whose practice is focused on complex contractual disputes and actions involving antitrust, civil RICO, and trade secret misappropriation claims in the federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey. Brian also regularly counsels clients in the professional sports and sports betting industries on a variety of regulatory and compliance matters.
Travis Ferguson—Business Litigation, Newark and Wilmington—A seasoned litigator with first-chair trial experience, Travis represents clients in complex business, commercial, and corporate matters involving contractual disputes, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, corporate governance, and corporate control. He practices in federal and state courts, including Delaware’s renowned Court of Chancery.
Yelena Margolin, PhD—Intellectual Property, Boston—Dr. Yelena Margolin is an experienced patent attorney practicing in the fields of chemistry and biotechnology. She assists clients with all aspects of patent prosecution, including the strategic development of IP portfolios in the US and around the world. Yelena also assists clients with freedom to operate (FTO) and patentability analyses, IP due diligence, and invalidity opinion work. Prior to joining McCarter & English, Yelena obtained her Ph.D. at the MIT Department of Bioengineering, conducted postdoctoral work at the Harvard School of Public Health and worked as a molecular biologist at Boston-area biotechnology companies.
Alison Morrissey—Product Liability, Philadelphia—Alison is an experienced litigator representing clients in complex, high-stakes commercial litigation, and mass tort pharmaceutical product liability litigation at the trial and appellate level. She has significant experience in handling drug and medical device cases in multi-district litigations, consolidated state cases, and individual lawsuits in federal and state court. Alison’s clients benefit from her background in biomedical research and prior work as a sales representative in the pharmaceutical industry.
Mario Russo—Insurance Coverage, Newark—Mario focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, with a primary emphasis on insurance matters. He counsels corporate policyholder clients, ranging from Fortune 50 companies to start-ups, on issues arising from virtually every type of first-party and third-party insurance, including general liability insurance, directors & officers insurance, errors & omissions insurance, cyber insurance, property insurance, and business interruption insurance. Mario represents clients in state and federal court, and in arbitration and mediation proceedings.
John Stoelker—Bankruptcy, Newark—John focuses his practice on creditor rights, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation. He represents lenders, financial institutions, secured and unsecured creditors, landlords, court-appointed receivers and bankruptcy trustees in both state and federal court proceedings. John appears in federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey, as well as bankruptcy courts throughout the country. John represents clients in all aspects of debtor-creditor relations.
