Christopher Mayer, interviewed on News 12 New Jersey’s weekly show “Power & Politics,” said the Department of Labor’s proposed changes to the white collar overtime rules will cost New Jersey businesses time and money, as they decide whether to pay more workers overtime, raise salaries to keep some employees exempt, or hire more employees so existing employees do not work overtime. In the segment, Chris predicted that the Department of Labor will continue its trend toward raising overall pay—at the expense of businesses—and that the next DOL move will be an adjustment to the duties test under the white collar rules for determining overtime eligibility.
