Ryan Magee spoke to the New Jersey Law Journal on the effects additional restrictive measures due to rising COVID infection rates may have on the cannabis industry. Ryan told the publication that he is “hopeful that any resurgence of COVID-19 would have minimal impact on the state’s fledgling recreational cannabis industry.” He explained that the “oversight of regulatory matters concerning cannabis were recently transferred from the state Department of Health to the new, independent Cannabis Regulatory Commission,” and because of this he hopes applications for adult-use cannabis licenses won’t be affected despite any restrictive measures imposed. “Applications for adult use cannabis licenses are hugely complicated, with applicants required to have approvals from local officials and arrangements for a bricks-and-mortar location already wrapped up,” Ryan said. “I don’t see any reason why, in terms of New Jersey, that we can’t stay the course in spite of restrictions or lockdowns or mask mandates.”
