McCarter & English today announced the arrival of partners Brent Huber, Amy Berg, and Louie Jorczak to the firm’s Indianapolis office, further strengthening its presence in Indiana and adding depth to three key practice groups. Huber joins the firm’s Insurance Recovery, Litigation & Counseling Group, Berg joins the Environment & Energy Group, and Jorczak joins the Bankruptcy, Restructuring & Litigation Group.
The trio, joining from Ice Miller, brings decades of experience representing clients in complex environmental contamination matters—including brownfield redevelopment projects—environmental litigation, regulatory compliance, insurance recovery disputes, and related real estate and business matters. Having worked together for years, they have developed a collaborative practice focused on helping clients identify, manage, remediate, and recover costs associated with environmental liabilities.
“Brent, Amy, and Louie are highly respected litigators with deep roots in Indiana, and we are so excited to welcome them to McCarter,” said Katherine Althoff, Co-Managing Partner of McCarter’s Indianapolis office. “As former colleagues, we know firsthand the strong relationships they have built in the real estate, environmental, and business communities and how their practices will benefit clients investing in and shaping the Indiana market and beyond.”
Huber is a veteran litigator whose practice spans complex commercial litigation, environmental disputes, and insurance recovery matters. He has spent his career helping policyholders recover insurance proceeds when carriers refuse coverage for significant losses, in matters involving environmental contamination, construction project-related claims, fires, floods, catastrophic losses, and other complex business disputes. A recognized leader in environmental and insurance recovery matters, Huber works with property owners, developers, municipalities, and businesses to transform contaminated properties from liabilities into assets by identifying potential sources of reimbursement, pursuing responsible parties, and securing insurance recoveries.
Berg brings a distinctive combination of scientific, regulatory, and legal experience to her practice. A trained agronomist, she advises clients on environmental, food, agricultural, regulatory compliance, and litigation matters involving state and federal programs, including those administered by the FDA and USDA. Her work includes addressing permitting, operational compliance, reporting requirements, environmental assessments, brownfield redevelopment issues, and intellectual property matters. Berg’s practical understanding of environmental and agricultural issues is informed by her prior experience with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, her work operating an inorganic laboratory analyzing environmental samples, and her personal experience working on a family-operated grain farm in Indiana. In collaboration with Huber and Jorczak, she provides both technical and legal guidance to help develop complex environmental recovery strategies and support brownfield redevelopment and other real estate transactions.
Jorczak is an experienced litigator whose practice encompasses environmental liability and related insurance coverage matters, commercial real estate disputes, foreclosure matters, lease disputes, construction-related litigation, and complex business litigation. He regularly represents commercial landlords, tenants, lenders, developers, and owners in matters involving distressed loans and real estate assets and in addressing environmental cost recovery or other disputes critical to advancing their redevelopment and real estate projects.
“The three of us have spent years collaborating on matters that require a unique blend of legal, technical, regulatory, and business experience, and that teamwork has always been one of our greatest strengths,” said Huber. “McCarter shares our belief that collaboration drives better results for clients. The firm’s full-service platform, strong culture, and commitment to cross-practice engagement create opportunities not only to expand what we can offer our existing clients but also to help all clients solve complex challenges. We’re excited to reunite with former colleagues and contribute to McCarter’s growing momentum in Indianapolis.”
“This team has built a highly regarded practice that continues to reinforce McCarter’s culture of collaboration and outstanding client service,” said McCarter & English Managing Partner Joseph Boccassini. “Their arrival strengthens several of our core practices, enhances our growing presence in Indianapolis, and reflects our ongoing commitment to attracting exceptional talent and strengthening the services we provide to clients.”
Huber, Berg, and Jorczak are also active leaders in their professional and local communities. Huber serves as co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Property Coverage Subcommittee of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and has served on the Board of Elders for Christ Community Church in Carmel, Indiana. Berg contributes to the Indiana Agricultural Leadership Program and is involved with its curriculum development efforts, participates in the Agriculture Law Council with the Indiana State Bar Association, and is a member of the American Agricultural Law Association. Jorczak is an active member of his local Knights of Columbus chapter.
Huber received his J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, and his B.S., with distinction, from Purdue University. Berg received her J.D., magna cum laude, from St. Louis University, her M.S. in Agronomy/Environmental Soil Chemistry from Purdue University, and her B.S., with highest distinction, from Purdue University. Jorczak received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, and his B.A., with distinction, from Indiana University.
