Lobbying Revenue Gains Revealed in Election Law Enforcement Commission’s Annual Report
McCarter & English continues to prove itself as an elite provider of lobbying services, showing impressive growth and breaking its own revenue record yet again. The firm ranked second among lawyer-lobbying firms, narrowing the gap between it and the top-ranked law firm, in the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC)’s annual report. The firm also moved up two spots to rank seventh among all lobbying firms in the state.
McCarter continues its steady increases, with its New Jersey lobbying revenue totaling more than $2.6 million for 2023 — up from approximately $2.2 million for 2022, a year-over year-increase of more than 20%.
“We are honored to serve in this critical capacity for our clients, many of whom make up the economic fabric of New Jersey,” said Guillermo Artiles, chair of McCarter’s Government Affairs Practice. “We have built a strong team of savvy attorneys and advisors with strong relationships, which continues to attract more clients as well as more power players to our ranks. I’m proud of what we are doing for our state on a day-to-day basis, and we’re grateful to our clients that trust us to help them.”
The firm represented 38 companies and organizations in New Jersey lobbying efforts in 2023, working both sides of the aisle to achieve results and provide counsel regarding legislative and regulatory issues that impact clients’ businesses. Clients span a wide range of industry sectors, including alcohol, cannabis, construction, cybersecurity, energy, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, real estate, technology, telecom, transportation, and waste management.
Those joining McCarter’s lobbying team in 2023 included New Jersey-based Christian Callegari, former Chief of Staff to Mayor Andre Sayegh in Paterson, New Jersey, and former Chief of Staff to New Jersey Assemblyman Gary S. Schaer, and Catherine Tung, a former senior advisor to New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin. The group expanded into Connecticut, adding Vincent Mauro Jr., the longtime Chief of Staff for Connecticut’s Senate Democrats in Hartford. An additional new McCarter ally is Michael Murphy, former prosecutor of Morris County, New Jersey, and a Government Affairs Advisor in the firm’s subsidiary, McCarter Government Solutions.*
The firm’s New Jersey lobbying team also includes industry veterans William (Bill) Palatucci and Grace Power as well as Omar Bareentto, Michael Maitland, and Azreen Rehman. The group also assists clients at the federal level and in Florida through Miami-based Carlos Gimenez, Jr.
The diverse makeup of McCarter’s lobbying team — from party affiliation to gender to race — is credited for enhancing the group’s success. It is the diversity of thought and perspective that the group brings to its varied clients’ challenges which is key to its effectiveness. The group is also a bellwether example of the firm’s overall commitment to diversity across its national platform.
“It is gratifying for us all to see how far we’ve come and to see that we are well-positioned to make an even greater impact as we move ahead,” said Palatucci. “This team is made up of the best and brightest in the industry, and we are passionate about achieving great results for our clients.”
