McCarter & English was one of the more than 50 legal organizations, faith, community and labor groups and former immigration judges who signed a letter to New Jersey Governor Murphy urging him to implement a universal representation program to ensure that all low-income people are represented in immigration court. In cities with comparable programs, having appointed counsel safeguards due process in the immigration system, allowing full and fair adjudication of meritorious claims to relief, moving cases efficiently through the system, and helping to preserve family unity.
