McCarter & English’s pro bono program has been ranked #71 on The American Lawyer’s 2020 Pro Bono Scorecard, a survey of pro bono performance among top US law firms. This improvement of 10 places from the prior year- recognizes significant increases in the two measurements The American Lawyer scores firms on: 1) the total number of pro bono hours performed by the firm (average of 45 hours per attorney), and 2) the percentage of lawyers who perform a minimum of 20 hours of pro bono work during 2019 (50%). The firm’s longstanding commitment to pro bono involves handling matters in a wide variety of areas, from illegal evictions and veterans’ rights, to assisting clients in immigration detention and victims of horrific abuse.
