Alexandra Joyce focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation and other complex commercial disputes in the Delaware federal and state courts. She frequently represents clients in the pharmaceutical, life science, and technology industries, and she has experience prosecuting and defending traditional patent litigation and Hatch-Waxman infringement suits, including in multi-district litigations. Alex has served as lead and Delaware counsel in such cases, and frequently advises national lead counsel on a wide range of strategic and procedural issues. Alex has also litigated a variety of complex commercial disputes, including those involving claims for trade secret misappropriation, unfair trade practice, false and deceptive advertising, trademark infringement, and breach of contract. Alex has been ranked in Chambers USA for her intellectual property practice.
In January 2022, Alex was nominated by her peers and selected by the Justices of the Delaware Supreme Court to be the “New Lawyer Speaker” at the 2022 Delaware Bar Admissions Ceremony.
In 2024, Alex was one of nine attorneys selected to participate in the Federal Trial Practice Seminar program sponsored by the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and the District of Delaware Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The seminar included lectures on trial practice from leading practitioners and judges, as well as hands-on, practical experience presenting opening and closing statements, arguing motions in limine, and a mock jury trial in the Delaware District Court.
As part of her pro bono practice, Alex represented an incarcerated man in a case alleging violations of the client’s constitutional rights to practice his religion, and she was a member of the litigation team at trial. Alex also successfully represented an incarcerated man in a case alleging that the client’s Eighth Amendment rights were violated during a sexual assault by a prison guard. After a two-day trial in the District of Delaware, the jury returned a verdict in the client’s favor and awarded punitive damages.
She is also an advocate for disability rights and previously served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Canine Partners for Life, a non-profit organization that trains service dogs for people with disabilities.
