Burton Winnick represents lenders in secured loan transactions—including commercial, asset-based, real estate and construction loans—and assists clients with general business transactions and corporate matters, real estate conveyances, commercial leasing, and condominium matters. Burt counsels his corporate clients concerning the acquisition and disposition of business assets, financing, real property, equipment leasing, contractual and employment matters, and succession planning.
Burt has extensive experience in property insurance matters involving policy interpretation, determination of loss, and damage for building, property, contents and business interruption insurance valuation claims. He has served numerous appointments as a referee (arbitrator) in property insurance disputes and has been appointed by the Massachusetts Commission of Insurance as a Third Referee.
Burt also maintains a significant practice in the automotive sector, addressing the acquisition, sale, and related financing of automotive dealerships; property acquisition or associated leasing; manufacturers’ agreements; control agreements; equipment leases; and ownership structures.
A sought-after speaker on real estate and property insurance topics, Burt has taught real estate courses at Northeastern University, lectured on insurance risk and claim matters at Babson College, spoken to banking and lending groups regarding insurance considerations for the lender, been a Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Program panelist, and been a featured panelist at the “FirmFuture 2010: The Practice Management Conference in Boston.”
Burt served as the Managing Partner of the firm’s Boston Office from 2008 to 2016 and is now the Boston Office’s Managing Partner Emeritus.
