Kathleen is keen to understand the raw mechanics of science behind emerging products and ideas.

Dr. Kathleen Ehrhard is experienced in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications. She counsels clients on the development of their patent portfolios and provides guidance on product cycle management strategies for their technologies.

Kathleen has experience in the preparation and prosecution of patents in numerous areas of the life sciences, including biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields such as molecular and cellular biology, proteomics, vaccines, tissue implants, diagnostic and therapeutic methods and kits, transgenic animals, small molecules, and pharmaceutical formulations. She also has experience in the worldwide prosecution of patents in the industrial textiles field, including machine clothing and composite parts for the aerospace industry, as well as in fields such as composite blades used in the aerospace industry.

Kathleen excels at interpreting the constantly changing landscape of regulation and law in order to best serve her clients. Her advice ultimately determines the way in which her clients pursue their patents, and she has seen numerous patent portfolios secured as a result of her counsel.

In addition to patent prosecution, Kathleen conducts and prepares freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, and invalidity analyses and opinions and focuses on transactional work that enables clients to develop and commercialize their technologies.

Publication

Kathleen’s dissertation research focused on a novel method of detecting interactions between heterologous transmembrane and cytosolic or cell surface proteins by exploiting the G-protein signaling pathway in yeast. This work has been published in Nature Biotechnology, and she is a co-inventor on patents related to her dissertation research.

Industrial textiles and materials processing company—Strategic patent portfolio development

We provide patent services for a global advanced textiles and materials processing company. The company develops and manufactures composite components for the aerospace industry and is the market leader in machine clothing. We handle all aspects of their domestic patent portfolio before the USPTO and manage their patent filings worldwide in conjunction with our foreign associates. We additionally provide transactional services relating to intellectual property agreements, and assist in patent filing strategy and portfolio development.
