McCarter & English today announced that Anree G. Little has joined the firm as special counsel in its Environment & Energy Practice Group, based in the firm’s Washington, DC, office. Little strengthens the firm’s energy capabilities and continues the firm’s focus on growing the team to meet the evolving needs of its clients.
Little joins from Spiegel & McDiarmid LLP, where he represented municipal utilities, public-power entities, joint action agencies, state regulators, transmission customers and other energy-sector clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), state utility commissions, and federal appellate courts. He advises clients on electric transmission and distribution, organized electricity markets, wholesale power transactions, interstate natural gas regulation, utility mergers and acquisitions, administrative litigation and related appeals.

Before entering private practice, Little served as an intern and extern in FERC’s Office of Administrative Litigation, supporting trial staff in complex electric and natural gas and oil pipeline rate litigation and settlement proceedings. He also interned with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Enforcement and Litigation and with the Nuclear Energy Institute.
Little’s energy practice is informed by his technical training and prior military service. A former U.S. Navy Engineering Duty Officer and Nuclear Submarine Officer, he led multidisciplinary teams responsible for nuclear operations, navigation, combat systems, training, maintenance, and operational readiness. He earned two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Little’s arrival is part of McCarter’s broader strategy to expand its Environment & Energy team and strengthen the services available to clients across markets. It follows the recent addition of environmental partner Amy Berg and two other partners in Indianapolis, which added depth in environmental litigation and regulatory compliance.
Little earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School; an M.S. in Applied Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School; and a B.S.E., magna cum laude, in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan.
