Richard Beran is an experienced litigator who regularly practices before trial and appellate courts in New Jersey and New York.

Richard’s practice encompasses all areas of business law with an emphasis on corporate governance and commercial litigation. His practice also includes conducting corporate internal and financial fraud investigations, as well as crisis management.

Throughout his career, Richard has litigated and arbitrated cases involving the sale of financial products, post-acquisition and post-merger indemnification claims, securities fraud and derivative litigation, accountants’ liability, government contract and health care fraud, and director and officer liability claims. He also has defended individual and class action consumer fraud claims and investigations.

Richard is a founding member of McCarter’s Diversity Committee and has served on the firm’s Executive Committee, Professional Personnel Committee and as the firm’s Hiring Partner.

Advised a major multinational Japanese electronics manufacturer in investigating and prosecuting the misappropriation of over $100 million in funds.

Coordinated an international team of lawyers in securing a worldwide Mareva injunction through the High Court of Justice in London; thereafter unraveling a complicated money laundering scheme that netted a recovery in excess of $65 million by securing domestic judgments in New York, Florida, Washington and Illinois, and foreign judgments in the UK, Spain, the Bahamas and the Canary Islands.

Defending two New Jersey-based financial institutions and their boards of directors in lawsuits and appeals arising from their conversion from mutual savings and loan associations to stock savings banks.

Defended a large bank in a consumer financial products class action; leading to a favorable settlement with no damages being paid.

Represents religious entities and child care providers in lawsuits and investigations involving sexual misconduct claims.

Represented broker-dealers, investment advisors and insurance producers before the SEC, FINRA, Bureau of Securities and Department of Banking and Insurance.
