Alexa Marie Derkasch is a registered patent attorney with experience in patent application preparation and prosecution, due diligence, licensing, and litigation. Alexa represents pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Prior to joining McCarter, Alexa was an associate in the Boston office of a large, international law firm, where she represented clients ranging from individuals and startups to publicly-traded companies on general intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, due diligence, and portfolio management. Alexa also gained experience working with clients in patent application preparation and prosecution in the fields of computer applications and software, mechanical devices and systems, electronic devices and systems, and consumer devices.
After law school, Alexa worked in-house for a Fortune 500 company where she prosecuted applications from a wide variety of technological fields, including aviation and avionics, medical devices, vehicle communication and networking systems, and computer software.
While attending law school, Alexa supported the New Hampshire Department of Safety IT Contract Team, specifically aiding the integration of computer systems and data from state, county and municipal law enforcement entities. Alexa also worked for a venture capital company performing critical proof-of-concept development for Fortune 500 companies to help identify patent assets that were most valuable with respect to monetization.
Working alongside the efforts of The Veterans Consortium, Alexa provides pro bono representation in federal venues for veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors who have been denied care, benefits, or compensation earned from military service.
