Sheila chairs the firm’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice. She concentrates her practice in all aspects of creditor’s rights, including workouts, state and federal court commercial litigation, foreclosures, defensive litigation, loan sales, forbearance agreements, and bankruptcy matters. She has in excess of 20 years of experience in advising lenders as they navigate through both strong and difficult economic times. Sheila’s extensive experience and proficiency spans numerous types of commercial claims and all types of commercial properties, including office buildings, apartment complexes, hotels, senior living facilities, acute care facilities, construction projects and shopping centers.  

Sheila’s clients include local and national banks, Special Servicers, insurance companies, hedge funds, real estate developers and a wide variety of other clients having the common objective of an expeditious recovery of funds. Sheila’s experience enables her to have a critical understanding of the unique business needs and objectives of her clients. She has developed long-lasting ties with her clients, who have relied upon her counseling in connection with collection or restructuring of their troubled loans or in defense of claims, including lender liability claim prevention.  

Working with her partners in the firm’s northeast footprint, including Boston, Hartford, Stamford, New York, Newark, East Brunswick, Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Washington, DC, Sheila is able to serve her clients’ regional needs.

Sheila co-wrote the briefs and participated in the appeal on behalf of the lender in In re Jason Realty before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which established a lender’s outright entitlement to rents under an assignment of rents. She also participated in preparing amicus briefs before the New Jersey Supreme Court, including a challenge to the Appellate Division’s holding as to when the statute of limitations begins to run under the actual fraud provisions of the New Jersey Fraudulent Transfer Act. Her publications include, “Jason Realty: The End of Single Asset Reorganizations?” published in the New Jersey Debtor Creditor Newsletter pertaining to a lender’s rights under an assignment of rents. Sheila has also published an article in the Seton Hall Law School Constitutional Law Journal pertaining to the Eighth Amendment and proportionality review.

In 2016, Sheila was named to NJBIZ’s “Best 50 Women in Business,” an award in recognition of New Jersey’s most dynamic women in business.
