The former Compliance Director for the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC), Stephanie Olivo has a unique understanding of the complex relationship between business and government. Her practice is devoted to helping clients understand and remain in compliance with a range of issues regulating their interactions with government at the federal, state, and local levels, including campaign finance, political contributions, PAC activities, reporting and registration requirements, corporate gifts and entertainment, and pay-to-play laws. She also helps clients develop compliance programs and fulfill their reporting requirements. Stephanie’s experience at ELEC makes her uniquely suited to help government contractors meaningfully engage in the civic space without jeopardizing their eligibility for future opportunities.
In her role at ELEC, Stephanie managed the agency’s compliance program, including the processing, review, and disclosure of reports filed by regulated entities, such as candidates, committees, governmental affairs agents, represented entities, business entities contracting with the state, and professional campaign fundraisers. She also administered the Gubernatorial Public Financing Program, directing the training of participating candidates and campaigns, and provided interpretation of the statutory and regulatory requirements to participants, treasurers, and legal counsel. In addition, Stephanie was the custodian of New Jersey ELEC’s records for administration of the Open Public Records Act, and regularly interfaced with the Office of Legislative Services and legislative staff on proposed legislation.
Stephanie previously served as Senior Counsel for New Jersey’s Casino Control Commission, and also as Assistant Solicitor for Atlantic City, NJ. She is a member of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws and a frequent speaker on political and election law topics.
