Jessie Bonaros is an associate in McCarter’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Group, focusing her practice on consumer financial services and real estate litigation.

Ms. Bonaros has a broad range of experience representing lenders, loan servicers, and other financial institutions in commercial and residential foreclosure actions and related litigation in both state and federal court.  Ms. Bonaros’ specific expertise lies in developing creative legal arguments successfully utilized to defeat complex affirmative defenses and claims.

Ms. Bonaros assisted in obtaining the following significant decisions:

Deutsche Bank Nat. Tr. Co. v. Romano, 147 A.D.3d 1021 (2d Dept. 2017).  Typographical error in written assignment of mortgage with respect to the name of the plaintiff's trust beneficiary did not vitiate the plaintiff's standing to enforce the note and mortgage.

Liev LLC v. Jones, N.Y.L.J., Oct. 31, 2017 (Sup. Ct., Kings Cty. 2017).  Assignee of lost note satisfied requirements of UCC § 3–804 and established standing to foreclose. Claim that mortgage was void ab initio rejected on ground that borrower waived any right to repudiate the mortgage loan by accepting the benefits thereunder and by making seventeen payments without objection.

Ventures Trust 2013-I-H-R v. Omene, Index No.: 0006993/2016 (Sup. Ct., Nassau Cty. 2017). Motion to dismiss foreclosure action as time-barred defeated because any election to accelerate was timely revoked by voluntary discontinuance of prior foreclosure action.

Ms. Bonaros received her Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in May 2014, cum laude, where she was a member of the New York Law School Law Review and was a John Marshall Harlan Scholar.  While in law school, Ms. Bonaros served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Louis B. York, Supreme Court, New York County.

Ms. Bonaros is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.
